GIST
In the times of illness, we all need a friend to check up on us. We say we don't but we know we do.
The US is the result of a secessionist struggle. Allying with each other these colonies of former English people along with those of many other descents fought and died to declare themselves independent and establish a home for those who would want to live under new laws not bound to yesteryear laws from across the ocean. These former colonies banded together in their shared spirit of unity against a single enemy to form a country, a republic, a culture and a new chapter in human civilisation’s history.
The establishment of The United States as a nation state was a result of an armed revolt. Naturally, one can understand their affinity towards being armed.Being armed means not being easily forced into unwanted terms. Being armed means having the ability to protect your own against an unreasonable adversary. Being armed means knowing the cost of war and the value of peace. Thus, having fought many just and unjust wars inside and outside their fold, the people of this country have developed in them an innate tendency to stand up and fight for what they believe is right.
From a bunch of colonies to The United States of America of 2025, a lot has happened. The United States in the last 80 years has cemented its position as a leader with its Pax Americana not just by showing its ability to develop an incredibly connected global economy and military and technological prowess but also by being a safe haven where a person of any background could find a comfortable shelter and live a law-abiding life with family and riches while giving back to the society one belonged to. The success story of United States of America is not just in its strong constitutional foundations but also that it has been ever changing progressively to adapt itself to the happenings of the world and the development of the American mind, culture and state while holding firm to its founding principles.
How does an individual adhere to an abstract concept like a State? beyond the law being applied such as in case of a punishment for a traffic violation being a fine, how does a person contribute to an abstract concept of a state without being an apparatus of the state?
It is an individual decision to follow all the laws of the said group, culture and state, even if it results in personal disadvantage at some level. But why would someone allow disadvantage at some level? It is the human understanding that that the collective advantage can raise the floor and in turn push the individual advantage to a higher ceiling. The collective identity of the people of the USA and has been deeply shaped by their military success against the English at the independence and the manner in which it came about.
From its inception till now, all this while, the USA has had its own bouts with ignorance that has plagued humanity for thousands of years. Winning some and losing some. On the backs of the honour and duty of generations of countless hardworking, honest men and women is the United States of America built and it is not limited to a bunch of weaponry and its ability to use it. Yes, superior firepower makes people bow down to you, at least those who fear for their lives. How do you make those who don’t fear for lives bow down to you? How do you make honourable people yield power and position to you to lead their own? How do you build a world with them as their leader?
It is by commanding respect.
People respect you for many different reasons, mainly because they think you are correct. You being correct has been of help to them. They have followed your way and have seen the results for themselves and they respect you for pushing that boundary and making it happen. When your friend grows wealthier and stronger and treats you with the same amount of love and respect as he did on day one, ideally, you’d only pray for his growth and well being. The US commanded this respect from the people of the world because The US’s growth is something they wanted to mimic, both within their regions and out. The strength of its institutions to be unwavering in the face of power and greed are envied around the world. The people of the world have allowed themselves to be influenced by the US because of a belief in this connected world they’ve built. The United States worked to be a super power and everyone happily allowed them to, not that they could have done much to impede it anyway. When such a major power makes the smallest of moves it affects everyone in its sphere of influence and even those out of it.
A story from the life of Buddha. The ancient Indian king Ajatashatru of Magadha before his attack against his enemy, The Vajji/Vrijji confederacy, asked his minister Vassakara to visit Buddha for battle advice and get intel on what made the Vajjis so strong and how could they be defeated. On being asked this, The Buddha being a force of life did not offer military advice. However, he turned to his disciple Ananda in the presence of Vassakara and asked if the Vajjis had been following his earlier teaching of the seven elements or truths that make a republic strong?
The gist of the seven are,
1. Holding full and frequent assemblies.
2. Conducting business according to rules in harmony and peace.
3. Not enacting anything without due process, no undue abolishing of anything established, acting according to their ancient institutions and traditions.
4. Honouring and supporting elders in the republic.
5. No dishonour to Women and no unlawful imprisonments.
6. Timely and consistent contributions to shrines in and out of the republic.
7. Providing security, defence and support to the enlightened in the republic for their works.
Ananda responds affirmatively saying that the Vrijjis had been following The Buddha’s teachings perfectly. Hearing this, The Buddha says that they’d remain undefeated as long as they followed these principles.
Acquiring this intel and reading between the lines, Vassakara delayed the direct attack on the vajjis and opted the only viable approach against a strong republic, subterfuge. Being a craftyman, Vassakara infiltrated the Vajji as a clan member and sowed seeds of conflict and distrust between clans and factions for years. This operation was carried out by creating minor disputes and fake disagreements between clans. In these disputes, he would take sides thereby deepening the rifts and exploiting conflicts between allies. Over the course of around 16 long years Vassakara internally weakened the Vajji republic to a point of destruction. The Vajji military collapsed owing to the disunity among the clans and factions.
Ajatashatru then conquered the vajjis delivering a brutal end to the republic.
This is a 2500 - year - old story.
Clearly, the more things change, the more they remain the same.
The USA, however you look at it, has followed some of the seven truths of the republic to a great effect and that is why they are where they are. One would argue that they’re not at all moral. I would argue that they're no more immoral than any other group of people in the human history. The USA now finds itself in the moment of truth where we will see if today’s Vassakaras take down the republic. Those who have been seeing, know that today’s position has been long in the making. For the republic to be destroyed, it had to turn on its own from within. Once the alliances inside were broken and decorum breached, it was time to break the alliances and breach the decorum outside. Once all allies abandon the US for the sake of their own survival, it can well and truly be dismantled to a point of no return.
Seeing all of it happen in real time is surreal.
It is now clear to allies and adversaries that some levers of the US republic have been actively working to sow discord among its people, factions and friends on behalf of another power or powers. The kidnap of Nicholas Maduro is straight from the next chapter in the playbook of modern digital populism that affects us all. It is also the beginning of the malignant faction within the USA using the US identity and its incredible state and military powers to create a monumental rift between allies that have worked incredibly hard together to build a connected and peaceful world order over the last 80 years. The threat of “Annexation of Greenland” and misuse of enforcement agencies to go to the extent of murdering a US citizens on US soil are evidently acts carried out not just as a distraction in domestic politics affecting the malignant forces but also as a move to hasten the breakdown of relationships between the USA and its allies and to steer the country towards isolation and its eventual end at the behest of a few corporations. The misuse of enforcement agencies to go to the extent of murdering a US citizens on US soil is an act of terror against the republic from within.
If the world is a republic and we are all factions, these recent actions are clearly by someone at the helm of our ally, our strongest ally trying to sever this bond of ours thereby weakening and destroying this global republic. It is the bot armies, compromised media owned by a few corporations manufacturing consent, stealing and cheating the electoral process thereby allowing a few connected groups to take over vast executive powers to steer us towards chaos and destruction so that they can steal everything we've built over the last 80 years.
It is happening to every single republic, not just the US.
It is a network executing their plan as planned.
We must move accordingly.
All men understand how important and honourable a duty it is to be by our friend’s side when they need us. Sometimes our friends need us the most when all their actions are aimed to push us away. These are testing times for this superpower and all its allies who have charted this course over the last 8 decades. We cannot abandon the USA at this moment. We must aim to repair and rebuild everything that has been destroyed but we must acknowledge that a world without the US as the leader is all of us inviting chaos in our lives. We must acknowledge that it is the a particular malignant force that must be looked at as the enemy, not the people or all of the US. The people of United States now find themselves alone, vulnerable, confused and in need of those friends it has cultivated throughout its history. Whether it is those from across the pond, those in the far east or those down under. Now is the time to stand closer than ever before. It is important for us to do our part, every bit of it, to ensure that our friend is rid of the malignant illness affecting it. We must do our part at all costs, for many of us are affected of the same illness and our friend here is far better positioned to fight it. Our fight is tied to theirs, for we all know that The United States of America and its brave, loud, kind and honourable people would be there for us at the time of our distress in the blink of an eye.
We have seen it before and we must keep faith and offer strength and kindness in these dark times. We must remember that beyond these nation states, we are but people, people who like to talk, who like to read, who like to eat and drink, who like to sing and dance and laugh together over our shared stories at the table and the table as we know it would forever be incomplete without the Americans at it. We must remember that the republicans are nothing without the republic and the democrats are nothing without the democracy and both of these only exist on the pillars of reason, collaboration and kindness and that even a little bit of kindness and reason can take us far in this struggle.
At the end of this tunnel, should we come out of it to see the light, I am sure, we’d have The United States of America back with us. Stronger than ever before, trying its best to walk on the path of truth having defeated powerful lies. And then will all, republicans and democrats alike, black, white and brown alike, in better times, look back to this period as just another star in the star-spangled madness.
